Personalised, not only customised
There's a difference, and it decides whether a gift survives the first house move. A customised gift takes a generic object and adds a name to it: a monogrammed glass, an engraved bottle stopper, initials on a cushion. A personalised gift carries something that could only ever belong to this one couple: their photograph, their handwriting, their date, the line they said to each other.
The first kind is pleasant and forgettable. The second kind ends up framed on a wall, because there is no version of it that fits anyone else. When you are choosing, ask one question: could this exact gift be handed to a different couple without changing it? If yes, it's customised. If no, it's personalised: and it's the one worth giving.
Names, the wedding date and the venue
The simplest personalised gift we make is the wedding date print: the couple’s names, the wedding date and the venue, set in type under “The Wedding Of”. We print; we do not engrave. If you want a photograph or a portrait instead, both are made to order from a photo of the couple.
How to pick before you buy
Three questions, in this order:
- How well do you know them? That sets the budget band, and the boldness. A close friend can take a wall-sized portrait; a colleague is better served by something smaller and quieter.
- Do you have a good photo of them that you may use? One clear shot of the two of them, decent light, both faces visible, that you took yourself or that the couple or their photographer has said you may use. If you have that, a portrait beats almost everything else on personalisation.
- Where will it live? A wall piece has to suit a wall they have. A keepsake for a shelf or a drawer is lower-stakes. Match the scale of the gift to the space in their home.
Five personalised gifts that hold up
The same portrait, sized as the headline gift
If you are the parent, the sibling, or the friend giving the gift everyone else measures against, the 40×50cm framed canvas is the move. It is a wall piece, not a shelf trinket: the sort of thing that ends up above the fireplace in the first home and stays there for thirty years. See the larger sizes
A handwritten letter, framed
The cheapest personal gift there is. One page, good paper, an honest hour at a desk, then framed behind glass. Nobody throws away a framed letter. Quality stock from a stationer, a fountain pen if you have one.
A book inscribed on the inside cover
A novel or poetry collection that means something to you both, with the date and a one-line message written in. The meaning is in the inscription, not the price.
An experience with their name on it
A tasting menu booked in their names, a cottage weekend, a workshop for two. Personalisation here is the booking confirmation, not an engraving: gift the thing itself, not a voucher they have to redeem.
The personalised gift that fits every couple
The couple portrait is about the two of them, which is why it suits a couple whose taste you are guessing at. Upload a photo, pick a style, and it is made by AI and printed at a size to suit what you want to spend. You see a watermarked preview before you pay.
